Thickness measurement precision

Using translators single element:

Translators (in order): Direct contact / delay line / immersion

There are three measurement modes according to the NF EN 14127:

Mode 1: The measurement is made between the echo of issue and the first echo. It is the most used mode, it is used with direct contact translators for rough surface conditions for strong thicknesses (> 20mm) for very absorbent materials, for measurements on plastic.
Mode 2: Used with delay line translators (tip "plastic") or immersion technique translators. The measurement is made between the interface echo (output of the delay line / into the room) and the first echo. Can also be used for measurements at high temperatures or on surfaces with small radii of curvature.
Mode 3: Use the same translators in mode 2. The measurement is made between two successive backwall echoes. Used for thin materials and requires less absorbent as to have 2 very clear bottom echoes. This is the most accurate measurement mode because it does not take into account the thickness of coupling.
